Circadian Lighting

Almost all organisms base their daily activities on a 24hr light-dark cycle. This 24hr cycle is called a Circadian Rhythm. A Circadian Rhythm sets or calibrates the master clock in our brain signaling all physiological processes throughout our day. The external stimulus that has the most significant impact on our Circadian Rhythm is natural or artificial light entering our eyes. Artificial light has long been a disturbance to our body’s daily 24hr light-dark cycle as we sit exposed to artificial light from various sources long after the sun goes down. As our knowledge of Circadian Stimuli and LED technology has advanced, we’ve been able to use the LED light sources to our advantage and keep our Circadian Rhythm and Master Clock in harmony which ultimately leaves us more energized and better rested.

As stated previously Circadian stimulus has an impact on Melatonin levels, Cortisol activity, and the body’s limbic system. This system regulates a person’s feelings of happiness, sadness, anger, and other emotions showing just how important our Circadian Rhythm is to our general health and well-being.

Cool white(Blue) light, as a general rule, produces higher CS at lower lumen/lux levels than warm white(Amber/Red) light. Dynamic color-changing LED’s are effective in delivering circadian stimulus because their spectrum can be tailored throughout the day to produce the recommended CS levels while being energy efficient and eliminating any undesirable brightness or glare. With TruColor RGBTW we can replicate the light/dark cycle of the sun by transitioning from bright white(High CS) during the day to a dim amber/red(Low CS) light in the evening. Not only is it efficient at delivering circadian-effective light throughout the day, but it can also set the right mood for working, relaxing, or dining.
